Today saw the start of the Covid-19 compliant Santa’s Grotto opening in Torquay town centre. The long awaited grotto was organised by Steve Holdup (known locally as ‘Mr Christmas’), who also organised the provision of Torquay’s Christmas lights. This year the Santa’s grotto features animatronics, including talking snowmen, polar bears, elves, and lots more. Tickets must be purchased in advance online via ‘eventbrite’.
Torquay has had grottos for in excess of 30 years and they have always been a big success. Due to the Coronavirus pandemic this year’s has been a great challenge to set up, but it’s finally here!! Father Christmas is waiting to see children at the Grotto and a photograph is included in the price. Tickets are available online only and cannot be purchased on arrival.
Celebrating its 30th year, Santa’s Grotto is run by volunteers who give their time to help raise funds for local, Rotary charities. A popular family attraction for children and the young-at-heart. This year’s event will follow the current Covid-19 guidelines to ensure the safety of all visitors. Please note that all attendees will be required to wear face masks and observe the regulation health and safety advice.
Grotto organisers say: “we will be operating an appointment system with advance ticket sales only. Our family tickets for up to six people include a tour of the grotto, a chat with Santa, one present for each child (up to a maximum of four children) and a souvenir 7″x5″ mounted photograph to take away”, “Our “elf” and safety team are working hard to ensure you have a “tree-mendous” time!”
Places are limited. Therefore, time slots will be strictly adhered to. Please ensure that you arrive in good time to avoid disappointment.
Merry Christmas to all!!
