BREAKFAST TEAM ‘STEP INTO CHRISTMAS!!’
Written by Jay Richards on 05/11/2021
The festive season is approaching and the place to be to enjoy the biggest party in town is happening twenty-one times over at the Babbacombe Theatre this year. The mood will be right, and the spirit of goodwill will abound with this super sparkling family show, Step into Christmas. ‘Good Cheer’, is all that you need to bring with you as the festive frolics begin for the yuletide season. This is exactly what our dedicated, Riviera FM Breakfast presenters, Dave Evitts and Danni Jordan did when they attended a premier showing of the ‘Step Into Christmas’ show at the Babbacombe theatre, Torquay.
Riviera FM’s very own Dave and Danni, met the stars of the show backstage, got to know one another and undertook a number of interviews that were aired on the Breakfast show. The show was a complete success and had something to suit all ages and tastes from traditional Christmas tunes to chart bands such as ‘The Weekend’ – so something for everyone of all ages.
Danni Jordan interviewed Paul Fordham, who has been professionally singing since 1998 previously performing as Cain in ‘Children of Eden’ (Gordon Craig, Stevenage), Joe Vegas in ‘Fame’ (Gordon Craig, Stevenage & Regional Tour) and as a lead vocalist at the London Palladium in ‘In Our Time’ before touring the Greek Islands as Production singer and cabaret artist for Thomson Gold. Paul then spent five years on Thomson (T.S.S The Emerald) and P&O (M.V Oceana). He also performed in many West End shows and was asked to join the 80’s Eurovision winners, Bucks Fizz completing the new line up. During 2011 Paul returned to the Babbacombe Theatre, celebrating his 25 years of productions, in ‘Heatwave’ & ‘Step into Christmas’.
Dave Evitts interviewed Phil Lowen who is one of the top comedy impressionists in the UK and has an act which is zany, energetic, very visual and always hilarious. Like a number of comedy stars Phil began his career as a Bluecoat at Pontin’s in the Early 1980’s before becoming front man for the highly successful show band ‘Tom Foolery’ a role once held by Brian Conley. The band played top venues throughout the country including many top billing summer seasons. Phil decided to go solo in 1989 when he was offered a long season in Jersey that had critics raving. He even won a top award, ‘Top New Entertainer of the Year’. Phil’s first television appearance was on ITV’s networked show, ‘Who Do You Do’, he was also to receive much acclaim for his superb impressions most especially Sir Tom Jones.
Speaking with Dave and Danni, they reported back a fantastic family orientated, friendly, highly hilarious evening out and would recommend this show to anyone. Dave Evitts said “I always try and get along to The Babbacombe Theatre Christmas shows, they never disappoint and this one was certainly no exception.” “I look forward to returning to this amazing venue to review future performances”.
