David Lowe
David Lowe shows
About me: I played guitar in a number of moderately successful London-based rock ‘n’ soul bands during the 1960s and 1970s.
After defecting to the disc jockey camp in 1978, I broke into radio at BBC Radio Medway (Kent) in 1981.
From there I joined DevonAir Radio in 1984, then returned to BBC local, followed by BBC regional, radio from 1990 to 2014.
I was also a provincial newspaper columnist from 1987 to 2018.
Passions: Music and the English language.
Favourite Music/Artists: Eclectic. Anything with true melody; meaningful lyrics and top-drawer musicianship.
Hobbies: Music, writing and gardening.
Favourite things: All the above, and a few more besides.
Programme details: I’ve been making a nostalgic weekly show for Riviera FM since July 2017.
It’s titled “Back Tracking with David Lowe” and it focuses on the popular songs and tunes from the middle years
of the 20th Century (1929 to 1979) performed by the recording stars of the time … evergreens; standards; ballads;
swing; big bands; chart hits and more.
