FAREWELL TO MUCH LOVED PRESENTER ANDREW MILLAR

Much loved Radio Presenter 59 year old Andrew Millar, who presented for Riviera FM has sadly passed away. The news came when Jay Richards and Dave Evitts entered the studio to present this morning’s (3rd June) ‘Breakfast Show’, “Riviera Breakfast”. The two presenters saw a message on Riviera FM’s text service requesting ‘Someone to ‘URGENTLY call’ a phone number that was left in the message. Jay Richards immediately called the number and was given the sad news of the passing of Mr Millar.
Paul Wright, Director of Live Business Group, Mr Millar’s previous Manager who sent the message, broke the news to Jay on the phone at approx. 6:30am 3rd June 2021. Andrew was reportedly feeling unwell as of last week, 31st May (Bank Holiday Monday), and was later admitted to Southampton General Hospital, with abdominal pains on Wednesday 2nd June 2021. He was immediately taken to intensive care. It has been reported that he had issues with his liver and kidneys and shortly after went into cardiac arrest. Dr’s were sadly unable to resuscitate him. He passed away around 7pm on the Wednesday the 2nd of June 2021.
Mr Millar was a pillar of the community and has been a role model for many a presenter at Torbay’s local radio station ‘Riviera FM’, as well as giving support to many charities across the country, throughout and prior to the pandemic. Mr Millar worked for Carnival UK as ‘Entertainment and Retail Director’ for Ocean Village Holidays, ‘Retail Product Director’ for P&O Cruises as well as breaking into the ‘Well-being’ sector of Carnival, which included Cunard as well as P&O. He was instrumental in Cunard becoming one of the first major Sponsors of Southampton Pride, which still stands to this day and was also Club President for Westcountry Wasps football club. His most recent job acquisition was working for MDL Marinas Ocean Village as ‘Marina Manager’. Mr Millar who previously lived in Torbay, recently moved to Southampton, but continued with his much-respected radio career with Riviera FM.
Riviera FM’s Managing Director Martin Foster said “Andrew will be a great loss to the station. He was greatly respected by all his colleagues and listeners alike. He presented with great energy and charisma to his audience, bringing a lot of interaction to all his listeners”. Mr Foster continued “He was a great communicator with a wonder persuasive presentation style, which enabled him to connect with his audience, and will be sadly missed by all”.
Mr Millar’s Husband Ken said: “Is it with greatest sorrow to let you all know that my darling Andrew Millar passed away peacefully yesterday evening. My heart has been broken into pieces and it will never be whole again. Andrew you were my rock, my confidante, my everything. Thank you for giving me the best that life could offer and more. You were a big man with a much bigger heart. You are the best dad, brother, grandad, son, friend, partner one could ask for. My heart is bursting with so much love for you it hurts. Rest well my love. Please wait for me on the other side.”
Andrew is survived by Mother and Father and leave behind two daughters, one granddaughter and one grandson. The family live in Fife, Scotland.
